This summit aims to provide a unique platform for open and interactive dialogue and discussion between policymakers, DMOs, academics, researchers, popular culture creators and fans, local communities, representatives from regional and local governments, cultural and education institutions, and private sector groups, such as tourism companies. The goal of the summit is to bring together diverse voices regarding issues, challenges and/or problems in popular culture and tourism and enhance our current knowledge and practices. This can help all groups to overcome undesirable consequences.
The theme of the summit in Taiwan this year is the nexus of tourism and creative industries. The symbolic and creative economy generated by creative industries contributes to vibrant cities and regions through the process of placemaking. Thus, places or locations associated with creative works and performances can create new opportunities for economically vulnerable peripheral regions that lack a compelling image to allure visitors.
While engaging with multiple stakeholders, the popular culture tourism stakeholders summit (PCTSS) in Taiwan aims to better understand the nexus between tourism and creative industries by incorporating the dynamics and complexities of social and cultural contextuality and particularity that are embedded in local contexts, which needs to be understood within their own social, cultural, historical, or political contexts.
